Cabinets, Countertops, Tile, Oh-My!

It seems like all our weekends consist of these days is house stuff! Today we spent pretty much ALL day at the house trying to figure out what color to paint the exterior of the back doors and Jep meeting with sub-contractors. I'd say we BOTH were pretty busy- but I'd be lying! I spent most of the day lounging in a chair in my dirt backyard supervising Jep's painting job-he probably loves the days I'm at work and not there to inform him that he missed a spot. :)

Below are a few of our latest pictures! We recently got our kitchen and bathroom cabinets and countertops installed. Tile is currently being laid in the bathrooms as well as the kitchen backsplash and around the fireplace, we are having copper flashing installed on the exterior of the house, and we are getting ready for plumbing.

Along with the excitement of building a house comes STRESS!!! Bless Jep's heart...he's been pouring his heart into getting our house completed and some days has been waking up at 3 or 4 a.m. thinking about the house....

Yesterday was a bad day- Jep had to fire one of his biggest sub-contractors for lack of performance. And then, on top of losing his main guy another sub made a BIG mistake in our guest bathroom. He misunderstood Jep's directions and tiled the bathroom walls up 7 feet. (Jep instructed him to tile the SHOWER 7 feet.) So, he had to have his guys tear down the misplaced tile and now the walls have to be resanded and repainted!!

We just keep reminding ourselves that it will all be worth it in the end!!!

Weekend Update

There have been a lot of changes this weekend. I can't believe how the house is just transforming. The exterior of the house is approaching completion as well as interior paint.

We let Dread loose to see his future home. He had a great time sniffing around and exploring. He is SO excited for his big backyard.

Dread sure did track in a lot of mud! Can't wait for that sod so we don't have to worry about this happening on our new carpet. :)

It's been a busy, busy Memorial Day weekend- full of furniture shopping. And, it turned out to be pretty productive. We found some pieces that we like and will probably be making some purchases very soon.

I did have a difficult time concentrating on shopping because I was wishing I could have been up in Indiana for the Indy 500. Poor Jep--he had to listen to me complain how much I wanted to be up there. :)

We did get to catch most of the race on tv though...and I think I actually got Jep to agree to attend next year! :) YESS!! So, Donnie--we'll be there next year! Get ready for us!

The Past Week

House stuff has been really moving along-Jep has really been on top of it! Here's a look at what has been going on in the past week...

We've ordered all our appliances! We are now proud owners of a refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, microwave, washer and dryer- all by Maytag. We got a great deal because it was "Maytag month" at Home Depot.

Brick is complete! We will be putting cedar on the thrid peak that is unfinished.

Everything has been moving along great and I continue to be amazed by how quickly everything is going up. It's been so much fun to watch!

Up Next: Cabinets! In the next week- our cabinets will be installed. We've also been working on choosing interior paint colors.

We've hopped on the band wagon

I've finally created a blog!! I've been wanting to start one for quite some time, and now that the wedding is over I feel like I can finally breathe. :) We've started this blog as a way to keep family and friends up to date with our daily adventures as newlyweds.

To catch everyone up to speed...Jep and I were married on May 2, 2009 in Santa Rosa Beach. It was truly the happiest day of my life and we were blessed with gorgeous weather and even better company.

On top of planning a wedding, Jep has been busy building our house. We closed on a lot in Pelham, Alabama on April 8, 2009 and are anxiously watching our home being built from the ground up...
