Straight from the Garden

We had our first dinner that included some of the produce from our own backyard!
The lettuce was taken directly from our little garden space. It was so yummy! The cherry tomatoes and cucumbers were store bought. It's still a little too early for our cucumber and tomato plants.

And....We're off!

It is official!

We can now say that we have "walker."

Miss Independent is all over the place.

Just a couple days ago we were counting steps. Eight steps were the most at one time. Well, as of today (5/30/12), she is now walking from room-to-room.

Look out world!

Memorial Day Weekend

What a great Memorial Day weekend we had!

Grammy made a last minute decision to fly down for a visit from Sunday to Tuesday. We packed in a lot to make the most of her time here. We were in party planning mode. Someone has a first birthday approaching very quickly. So, our weekend consisted of getting things ready for our little ladybug!

Lilah got a lot of Grammy love!
Baby girl just gets spoiled rotten when Grammy is in town!

On Sunday night, Jep and I were able to sneak away for a nice dinner. It was great!! A night out just the two of us is very rare. So, we don't take moments like this for granted.

Lilah and I sported our red, white and blue on Memorial Day. We are so thankful for all of the brave men and women who have served and are currently serving our country! God bless our troops and we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom!

Little Miss America!

Lilah: 11 Months

My Sweet Baby Angel,

You are 11 months old today! How on earth do I have an almost one year old?!  I called your pediatrician's office the other day to schedule your one year well visit and I found myself stumbling over saying the word "year."  I'm so used to saying 6 months, 9 months, etc.  So, when it came to me saying one year out loud it completely threw me off.

You are growing up so quickly and we're seeing your little personality come out more and more.  For the most part, you are one happy girl!! However, we have seen your strong-willed personality come out a few times lately.  You let us know when you don't want to do something or if you are mad when we take something that you shouldn't be playing with away from you.  When you get mad, you'll arch your back and throw your head back so dramatically.

You are very independent. You want to do everything yourself. We have known this for a long time now. However, I guess I didn't realize how evident it was to others until we left you in the church nursery one Sunday and the staff (who had only spent about an hour with you) commented on what a little independent girl you were. They said you wanted to feed yourself and didn't want to be babied.

You are very vocal and love to "talk."  You say a lot of "ba-ba" and "da-da."  Still no "mama."  But, I'm working on that.  You know how to wave bye-bye and also say bye-bye when you wave sometimes.  You are a clapper! :)  You love to clap and you smile real big when you do so. You love it when we cheer for you after you've done something and you'll clap along with us.

Some of your favorite toys right now are: dinosaur walking toy, leapfrog magnetic farm, plastic bottles, ball, and anything noisy like rattles. You still love your Singing Baby and Praise Baby DVDs.

You are still eating grown up food and have been completely off of purees for the about a month and a half. You were never a big fan of being spoon-fed. So, we went ahead and cut out the purees all together and moved onto table food. You love to eat! You eat everything!! You are not a picky eater. Some of your favorites are pizza, watermelon, bananas, and chicken. You also love your Puffs and Gerber cookies. You still drink about five 6 oz bottles a day. We are really trying to cut down on these but you love your bottles. You are now on strictly formula (we stopped breastfeeding last month) and I'm sure we'll be making the transition to cow's milk pretty soon. Looking forward to that day...formula is expensive!!

You are sleeping pretty well at night. After "bubbles" (your bath), we get you ready for bed.  You go down between 6:30 and 7:00pm. We do a little rocking while you have your bedtime bottle, but you are usually stretching to get out of our arms and into your crib. You fall asleep so well on your own.  You usually wake up around 3:00am and you'll take either a bottle of formula or water while in your crib and you put yourself back to sleep.  You wake up for the day between 5:30 and 6:00am.  This is perfect for the weekday but not so good on weekends.  On days we can sleep in, I can usually get you to go back down until about 7:00am.  You are an early riser and are so ready to start the day!

Big News!! You are now taking your first few steps unassisted! A couple days ago (5/22/12), you took 6 whole steps all by yourself!! Unfortunately, I got home late that day and Papa was the one who witnessed it.  For me, you've only taken one or two.

You are now standing all by yourself for long periods of time! What a big girl!

We love you so much baby girl!! Happy 11 month birthday!!

Tiny Tulip Dinner

Last night the Tiny Tulip class and their families all met for dinner at Surin.  Let me just say that our waiter was a very brave man! Either that or he didn't have a choice on whether or not he was going to be our server.  He handled 9 infants, 9 sets of parents, and a few older siblings very well!   It was also amazing that with all the babies and kids present there was not one single meltdown.  The Tulip class is very well behaved!!

Lilah was loving the crab angels. She couldn't get enough!!

Tiny Tulip Class and Family

Sweet Mary and Momma pic!

Not the best pic of the three of us but it will do!

The precious Solomon family!

We had such a great time and it was really nice to meet the other parents of Lilah's classmates. We are all usually rushing in and out during drop-offs and pick-ups so it was nice to sit down and get to know each other.  It's a little sad that we are just now doing this since Lilah will be graduating from the Tiny Tulip class to the Bouncing Buttercups on June 1st!!!  So, we'll have a whole new set of parents to meet! Fun stuff!!

From the Ground Up: Garden Edition

It's time for a weekly garden update! I can't believe how fast everything is continuing to grow.  We've made a few additions since my last post.  We now have cages for the tomato plants and Jep planted some french marigolds. One of the things we've learned from Bart over at HeadSpace is that these marigolds can help ward off harmful insects.

Special note: No pesticides to date...we'll see how things work with the marigolds. "We're keepin' it organic." --Jep

Our lettuce is about ready to be picked and we'll be enjoying some fresh salad this week!

The cherry tomato plant is still doing awesome! Lots and lots are sprouting up!

And...here is another angle of the garden that shows off the cucumber and cayenne pepper (new addition!) plants.

X-Terra

Jep participated in the X-Terra triathlon at Oak Mountain this weekend. This race is a pretty big deal. People from literally all over the world come to participate in this event which is practically in our own backyard.  Pretty cool! The race consists of a lake swim (500 meters), a mountain bike course (10k), and a trail run (5k).

Baby angel and I showed up (a little late) to cheer our Papa on!

After Jep's group (the sprint group) was finished, we hung around to watch the international triathlon championship.  There were triathletes from all over the world competing in this race...including triathletes all the way from eastern Europe to Mexico.
We took a little break from watching the race to give Lilah a chance to play in the water.

Post-race...Way to Go, Papa!!

Jep finished in 3rd place for his age group! We're so proud of you!

Lilah sporting her daddy's race bling!

Lucky Ladybug

The theme of Lilah's 1st birthday party is ladybugs. Yesterday, while Jep and Lilah were outside in the backyard they noticed a tiny ladybug who showed up for the party early! :)

Two little ladybugs!!!

From the Ground Up: Garden Edition

Things are really looking good!! Our little garden just keeps growing and growing!  We're planning on getting some cages for the tomato plants very soon! They have really grown in the past week or so!

Our cherry tomato plant has been producing a lot!  We have probably about 10 little tomatoes that have popped up.

The random beans in the corner are also growing like crazy!

Maybe She's Born With It...

While I was catching up on the phone with my BFF Megan, in another room, Lilah was under her Papa's "watchful eye."  In the midst of our conversation, I had to run out to the kitchen and I found Lilah like this!

She had gotten not only into the diaper bag but, she found (and dumped out!) my makeup case.  That little sneaky one also managed to take off the caps of all of my lipsticks. Thankfully, all of them were twisted all the way to the bottom so she wasn't able to make too much of mess.  Oh, girl!!! You are only 10 months old and already getting into mama's makeup....we're gonna be in trouble! :)

This picture is one of my favorites becuase it looks like she knows exactly how to apply her lipstick!

Stylin'

I've posted before how much Lilah loves her teacher, Ms. Brenda. Well, the feeling is very mutual--Ms. Brenda loves our baby girl.  While out shopping one weekend, Ms. Brenda picked up this precious pink hat for Lilah because when she saw it she said she thought of her. How incredibly sweet is that?!! I was almost in tears when she told me this. Things like this just make me so grateful to be able to have such special people, like Ms. Brenda, in our baby girl's life.

Painting Fun!

A few weeks ago Lilah and I met up with Ms. Allison, Madeline and Mary for a Mother's Day craft session. We bought tiny canvases for the girls to paint a little masterpiece for their grandmas. Lilah also made one for her Uncle Donnie because we knew he'd really appreciate it! (He got the artistic genes of the family.)

Here are some of my favorite shots of my little artist.

We're ready to get painting!!

Precious little girls...
